Born in Cairo, Egypt to an American father and an Indonesian mother, Crystle spent most of her childhood in Indonesia, and came to Kansas City in 2000 when her family relocated. She has worked in various areas of the entertainment industry over the years, appearing internationally in ad campaigns, TV commercials, runway, and print jobs.
Crystle began modeling at age 14 and gradually built up an international modeling career. Her American/Indonesian ethnicity opened doors for her to work in Asia as a model, which she pursued full time after finishing school. She studied Film and Media and Communication at the University of Kansas. Itching to satiate her need for adventure, she graduated early and with Highest Distinction in 2009. Her passion for travel and culture led her to work in countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, South Africa, and Australia.
In addition to her modeling career, Crystle also found herself in a rewarding position as a preschool teacher at a private school in Sydney, Australia. Meanwhile, she continued her work as a freelance videographer and editor, producing commercials and docu-series sizzle reels that were pitched to major TV networks back in the US. These were just the first steps she took toward her now ten-year career in TV.
Upon her return to Kansas City in 2011, Crystle won the role of 38 the Spot Host, beating out more than 250 contenders who auditioned for the position. In her ever-expanding role as a host and reporter across both Channel 41 (KSHB-TV) and Channel 38 (KMCI-TV) she covers local events, like the Big 12 Basketball tournaments, Major League Soccer games and various music festivals. She also records entertainment news segments that air every weeknight on 38, and she appears on the 7am live morning newscast, 41 Action News Today, every weekday. These platforms allow her to discuss some of her favorite trending topics, from local happenings to viral videos, sports, entertainment news, health, and travel.
In addition to her news segments, Crystle produces her own show! She pitched and co-created a weekly half-hour TV series that airs on 38 The Spot every Sunday night at 11. As Executive Producer and Host of Behind The Spotlight, Crystle interviews emerging and established musicians, delving into the story behind their struggles and victories.
Beyond her responsibilities for Channel 38, Crystle fills in as the host of Kansas City Live, a live lifestyle morning news program on Channel 41 (the local NBC affiliate). She also fills in as a reporter for the 4pm newscast, The Now, which also airs on 41. She was a sideline reporter for Sporting Kansas City, the MLS-cup winning soccer team, during their 2013-2014 season.
Over the years, Crystle has worked closely with Sporting Kansas City, producing weekly soccer player profiles that include exclusive and intimate interviews. Additionally, she is a columnist for Eleven magazine, the official magazine of Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer.
Crystle also produced her own beauty segment called “Crystle’s Beauty Corner.” Plus you can see her kitchen skills put to the test in her Aldi-sponsored cooking segment, “Cooking with Crystle.”
In her spare time, Crystle enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, eating Indonesian food, reading, and playing the piano.
