Calling all holiday shoppers! Still looking for those perfect gifts?
Through my TV and modeling work I've met some incredible Kansas City entrepreneurs-- and let me tell you-- we have some serious talent here! From graphic tees and "KC" emblazoned hats, to handmade jewelry and custom coffee blends, it's hard to go wrong with items that scream "KC PRIDE"! I challenge you to not like these suggestions. Just try.
First up... I love me some KC tees. This tank by Tomorrow KC comes in several colors and T-shirt form, but I chose red because, obviously... CHIEFS!
And for those of you who'd rather cheer on the Royals and or/support breast cancer awareness, I present you these options from the brand spankin' new company, LAMA BRAND.
Laura and Martin Menninger are a husband and wife duo with a fateful love story worthy of romantic dramedy status. We had them on KC Live to discuss their burgeoning brand, and they charmed us all with their quirky on-again off-again romantic history. At the same time they inspired us with their undeniable love for each other and their newfound hustle. They bring this fervor to every shirt, hat, and koozie they design, and it shows-- in the form of hearts, patriotic motifs, and KC sports pride.
A couple of my faves:
But what to wear with these fabulous tees?
I will be the first to admit that I am not one for accessorizing. I like jewelry just as much as the next girl, but when it's 4am and I'm stumbling around in the dark trying to get to work on time, this girl is not searching for that perfect statement necklace. So I need pieces that are easy to throw on-- either staples, like simple rings or earrings that I wear everyday, OR statement pieces that are neutral enough to match anything.
Hence, these are a couple of my favorites from ENVE Designs.
Ngan Vuong is a self-taught jewelry maker. She does it all: from selecting materials, to designing, to hand-creating the piece. Each stone, each piece, is unique. Knowing that something is not mass produced is a huge bonus for me.
OK so your [insert family member/friend/coworker] is not an apparel or an accessories person. That's quite all right because everyone knows that all good people drink coffee.
Are you a "frappuccino with extra whipped cream and caramel with a maraschino cherry and a banana split on top" type of coffee-drinker? I used to be one of those. I have since learned that while the occasional PSL is still allowed in my book, all that sugary crap is just disguising bad coffee. Or really, you wouldn't know if it was good coffee because you can't taste it.
Enter MAPS Coffee. It's the first coffee I've been able to drink without adding so much sugar to my cup that my insulin receptors start shutting down.
The owner of Maps, Vincent Rodriguez, used to work at Starbucks, but has since, thankfully, crossed over into the small-batch scene. His custom bike/coffee shop is a coffee-drinking biker's paradise. And that's his cold brew picture above, by the way, not beer (although Boulevard drinkers will be glad to know he partnered with the beer company on the Early Riser).
Do your friends and family eat? If yes, a Park Place gift card is a great place to start. There are several restaurants in this new Leawood shopping area that I love to frequent.
And YES, some of these restaurants have other locations in the metro, but I love Park Place because A) it's closer to my house, and B) this time of year their ice rink is open! Plus there are so many shops and restaurants in one place that it makes for a great date night or happy hour spot.
Which brings me to...
The shops. For the Pinterest person on your gift list, check out Pink Antlers. This store is darling. Whether you need home decor, cute craft supplies, or unique KC-themed gifts these ladies have it all.
Another great spot is Hand & Land. Their products are free of harmful chemicals and preservatives, and they're organic and sustainable. Think Jessica Alba's Honest Company products but local (bonus)! Here you can also find KC apparel and accessories.
Hope this gave you a few ideas! I'm off to build a gingerbread house. Yes seriously.
